Commissions by Herb Rosenberg
"Time as a Constant Uncertainty".
1998 - Millennium project.
Commissioned by New Jersey City University in 1998 to commemorate the millennium of 2000. "Time as a Constant Uncertainty" is a forty foot tall statement of stainless steel and yellow Canadian Yellow Birch which is installed in the center of the university campus. The upward diagonal thrust sets precariously on two foot cube. Cradled within a thick stainless steel wedge-shaped form is the sculpted wooden form in four sections which was harvested by Mr. Rosenberg at his cabin in the woods of Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia. Over a period of decades, the wood eventually will rot away to reveal previously hidden sculptural elements. Herb Rosenberg hired six of his sculpture students for a year to work with him on the construction of the work. It is anchored with seven tons of concrete.
